Topic – Affordable Housing:
Should we limit the amount of land set aside for affordable housing in West Amwell?
Connor Montferrat and Rich DeMeuse say YES and believe that we should limit it to what only is required by the state. We do not support the unrealistic state-mandated affordable housing demands, yet we are required to plan for them (not build) by law. The township has identified 1 parcel which will satisfy the State demand for the next 10 years (2025-2035). We support this solution because the township shouldn’t plan for more than what’s necessary.
Our opponents say NO. Instead of 1 property, they want the entire corridor open to affordable housing! During public comment at the plan adoption hearing they rejected the 1 site solution. Joan: “Why the plan is only focusing on Lots 5 & 9 of the Pine Creek parcel to meet the affordable housing needs?” and Brian: “What the harm is in changing the zoning for all of the other lots in the Redevelopment Area?”

Opening up the entirety of the Redevelopment Area is a BIG mistake and would be an unmitigated disaster with high density development.
We do not want:
• Further litigation wasting tax dollars
• Eminent domain punishing property owners
• Builder’s remedy lawsuits like in the past.
